Yes, you have read that right! Rorschach test. Also, if you are like me and spend the past 2-3 minutes trying to pronounce “Rorschach” , well you are not alone. Click the the hyperlink to hear how it supposedly sounds like and yes you’re welcome! ❤️
You may have seen in some movie clips where a psychologist shows to a patient various paintings or inkblots to assess their general perception of things or maybe you too could be one of those patients in real life that have been subjected to such a test. It could also be that you have never heard of it or may have seen it but have no clue what it is all about. This is also known as the inkblot ot Rorschach test. Well, today , I am going to talk all about it and even subject myself to such a test and show my results as well. Come follow me and let’s discover more!
It was a pyschological test developed in 1921 by the swiss scientist Hermann Rorschach to measure thought disorder so as to determine mental illness. Inspired by monitoring schizophrenic individuals who tend to perceive and engage to stimulus much more differently than non- schizophrenic individuals, he developed a testing that involves the use of inkblots cards. A participant of the testing would be enquired of what he or she saw or perceived through the cards to gauge mental stability. His approach was more about these participants’ overall approach to determining what they saw rather that what they saw to understand their psychology. This innovative, short video explains it in such a intricate and engaging way that I just have to share it here with you guys!
In the whole inkblot I can see a fantastic or mythological creature(s) – witch, devil, dragon, elf, goblin, etc. The creature is moving (running, jumping, flying, talking, etc.)
In the whole inkblot I can see a person, several people, a person’s face. The person is motionless (standing, lying, sitting, thinking, etc.)
In the whole inkblot I can see a person, several people, a person’s face. The person is moving (walking, dancing, jumping, singing, etc.) or took an unnatural position
In the whole inkblot I can see the shape of an animal (one or more), the face of an animal – bear, cat, dog, bat, beetle, etc. The animal is motionless (standing, lying, sitting, etc.)
I associate the whole inkblot with the landscape or a geographical element (map, river, island)
Part of the inkblot reminds me of the shape of an animal (one or more), the face of an animal – bear, cat, dog, bat, beetle, etc. The animal is moving (running, jumping, wagging its tail, etc.)
I associate the whole inkblot with the abstract concept – love, power, friendship, loyalty, etc.
You can impartially resolve life problems of life and stay objective. You try to rely more on rational thinking, rather than sensual impulses. You lack some spontaneity in decision-making.
You are a mature person, clearly understanding and accepting your inner world, your needs and desires. You are able to sympathize and empathize, you are interested in the emotions of your nearest and dearest. You aspire to do something unusual and original, combining ideas and solutions.
You are not prone to rapid changes in lifestyle, first prefer to weigh everything carefully, and then get involved in an adventure.
I mean the results are fairly accurate and much evidence and research have shown that if this test was done accurately and used appropriately the results are valid but then again since over the years the misuse of this test has leave many of us doubting including professionals in the field . Hence it will take much time for this test to gain some credibility back.
Who knows in the near future some one could pick up on Roschach’s work and develop it further or even enhance its usage and testing approach so that eventually we can see this inkblot test with “fresher eyes”. Overall, I would not discredit this test right away but rather hope that it will be augmented to prove its credibility in the clinical sphere. If you are keen to try out the same test yourself, click here and let me know your general thoughts or results if you wish! Thank you for indulging me this day and I wish you all a lovely week! Stay Safe ❤️
With lots of love, Stephanie❤️
